Some of these students have never been to school...have experienced trauma and have missed certain parts of education, and we have students who don't have literacy skills, who don't have any background knowledge to draw on from their first language.

An English learners coordinator at DeKalb County School District in Georgia, Bass joined All For Literacy host Dr. Liz Brooke for Season 3, Episode 2. After working with refugees through various nonprofits and AmeriCorps, Bass earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching and has dedicated her career to supporting this population as they learn English.

The DeKalb County School District is the most culturally and linguistically diverse district in the country, and includes students from 167 different countries who speak more than 174 languages and dialects. After working with refugees through various nonprofits and AmeriCorps, Bass earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching and has dedicated her career to supporting this population as they learn English.
